Aviator Series: Aviator Chronograph -olive nylon strap / Aviator Chronograph -brown strap
We want to welcome Jack Mason into the Service family and suggest their beautiful Nautical and Aviation inspired watches for Father's Day, which is just around the corner!
The watches are designed and developed in Dallas and feature Super Luminova markings for easy reading during the day or night, a hard mineral crystal face, a 3 year warranty from date of purchase, Japanese Quartz movement, and each dial is hit with a subtle red, white, and blue marking on the second hand, which match the colors of the American Flag.
As an added bonus, the watches with leather straps have a quick release feature so interchangeable leather straps are a fun option.
Aviator Series - back and side view
The Aviator Series options include the Chronograph (in layman's terms, a stopwatch/timer) and the 3 Hand. The face on both is inspired by the instrument gauges of an aircraft. All the Aviators have a star on the dial representing the Lone Star state and the front of the plane etched on the back of the watch.
Aviator Series: Aviator 3 Hand -brown strap / Aviator 3 Hand Automatic - brown strap
The Aviator 3 Hand Automatic is self winding. The mainspring is wound automatically as a result of natural motion of the wearer's arm.
Aviator Series: Aviator 3 hand -stainless steel / Aviator 3 Hand -tan strap
Nautical Series: Nautical Chronograph -brown strap / Nautical Chronograph -navy strap
Nautical Series -back and side view
The Nautical Series also includes the Chronograph and the 3 Hand. The face on both is inspired by nautical instruments. All the Nautical pieces have a start on the dial representing the Lone Start state and ship's wheel etched on the back.

Service Menswear is excited to present a hat, shorts, swim trunks and tees from The Critical Slide Society (TCSS).
Founded in 2009 in a seaside village on the Central Coast of Australia, TCSS was launched by a couple of like minded surfers, Jim Mitchell and Sam Coombes, who, with a good sense of humor and a keen eye for art and design, had the vision of an authentic, creative label as a platform to celebrate an emerging alternative movement within surf culture: one that’s less about the winner’s podium and more about the simple joy of a deeply engaged surfing life.
TCSS works with artists, photographers, designers, filmmakers, surfers from across the globe, all of whom share a similar outlook. TCSS unique approach and its detail oriented design, has quickly become recognized for being one of the leading surfwear companies in originality.
Mitchell and Coombes describe the company in their own words: "A slippery little creature. Wrestled from the minds, pencils & sketchbooks of a small few in Australia & the United States, fed on a strict diet of colorful foam mowers, soulful skeg flexers (past & present) and the versatility of the humble surf craft beneath our feet.”

When the Van Doren brothers, Gordon Lee and Serge D’Elia, opened the doors to their Vans store on March 16th, 1966, they sold twelve pairs of authentics style shoes. The customers were told to return to the store later in the day; the brothers had to rush to the nearby factory where they manufactured the shoes on the spot! When the customers returned to pick up the shoes, the brothers realized that they forgot to have money till on hand to make change. The Van Doren's asked the customers to return the next day with payment. All twelve customers returned to pay in full. Back in 1966, the Van Doren brothers set out to make quality footwear at an affordable price, and today, 50 years later, Vans continues to achieve their goal.
Service Menswear is proud to feature a capsule collection from their 50th "golden" anniversary styles that prominently feature golden anniversary foil detailing. The shoes come in the original Van Doren shoe box design from 1966.

Unsurprisingly, Vans actively sponsor skateboard, surf, snowboard, BMX and motocross teams, have opened famous skate parks, and have had many famous ambassadors that swear by the Vans name. In addition, Vans has also been a long-time supporter of music, namely as being the primary sponsor of the traveling music festival, Van's Warped Tour. They started the fest in 1996 making it the longest running concert series.

As their passion and investment in youth culture show no signs of slowing down, Vans continues to reinvent themselves while maintaining the quality and timelessness that they are known and loved for.

Banks is a global men's brand based in the USA, Japan and Australia created by surf industry veterans Tim Cochran, Masahiro Shibahara, and former professional surfer Brad Gerlach.
Splice boardshort
The three owners grew up surfing and wanted to create a brand that was understated, less focused on branding, and more focused on quality and sustainability. Banks is openly passionate about decreasing their carbon footprint and they do this by using recycled polyester for their labels, organic cotton, and PVC & phthalate free inks.
Loom tee
Banks focuses on the guys who grew up surfing, much like themselves, but are influenced by other passions like photography, music, architecture, and travel; guys that want a premium product, are conscious about the environment and are seeking an authentic brand that will mature with them.
Laneway boardshort
Simply put, their mission is to merge style and understated functionality with a sustainable approach to design and development.

Matt Leines is a Brooklyn based artist that grew up in New Jersey and studied illustration at RISD. His influences range from suburban American culture to primitive and non-western art, myths to masks, He-Man cartoons, and the WWF. Leines creates a surreal, obsessive, highly detailed world inhabited by men and beasts and everything in between, chronicling their conflict and culture.
Tiger t-shirt front and back
"If I stumble upon something, I try to draw it in my sketchbook as quick as possible. I like to look at a lot of different paintings from different cultures where you have to infer what is going on. If there is something I come across, an image, a composition, an idea, I just draw it--and I'll use the word bastardized--until the initial influence has disappeared and it exists only in my world."
All over jacquard pattern socks
Lion patch tank top
For the Matt Leines/RVCA collaboration featured in the above items, the focus is on the stylized lightening bolt and the tiger "mask", which are recurring images/characters throughout his work. Leines work has steadily been shown all around the world since 2002, namely at Deitch Projects in NYC, Roberts and Tilton in LA, in Athens, Greece and Tokyo, Japan.

"The Authentic SF" Yusuke Hanai Classic White
"My name is Yusuke Hanai. Illustrator from Japan. I started surfing when I was in high school. I surfed at my local reef break. And I will keep surfing from that point on for the rest of my life."
"The Authentic SF" Classic White top view
Much to his conservative parent's chagrin, Yusuke Hanai followed his dream of becoming an artist by saving up money bartending before attending art school in San Francisco. He continued to surf while in SF and was influenced by the people and counter culture there. His art is now known worldwide and it all came from continuing to pursue his passions.
"I liked doodling ever since I was a kid...I like people, especially weird people. Weird people are interesting and such great characters. And there are so many of those types of people in surfing. Of course I love surfing so sometimes I like to draw surfers."
"Mens Hanelei" flip flop
The Authentic SF canvas shoe and the Mens Hanelei flip flop are the result of the collaboration between Vans and Hanai. They showcase the Japanese artist's modern mid-century details and illustration while maintaining the classic Vans form. Fun fact: the left and right foot on both the shoes and flip flops feature different illustrations.
You can now find both styles in our brick and mortar store. Click on any photo above to view/purchase in our online store.
"Think about what people want you to do. Think about what you can do to make people happy. Then find out what you want to do." -Yusuke Hanai

Introducing Dickies Construct, a new line from Dickies that blends their iconic workwear with a modern, slimmer fit and rich seasonal colors. Dickies is a company that has always adapted to the times, from their beginnings as an overall manufacturer to the early 90s when punks and skaters co-opted the brand. This willingness to change and evolve is what has kept Dickies around for close to 100 years.
Many people will associate Dickies with the hard-working, salt of the earth mechanic or truck driver, not the younger, more fashion conscious image that the Construct line brings with it. The slim silhouettes and clean lines of Dickies Construct don’t replace the durability of the original, but complement it. Much of the Construct line is made from the same technical fabrics as their workwear.
Several of the pieces in the Dickies Construct collection are made from patterns found in the Dickies archive room. The Quilted Overshirt is a design from the 1940s. Minus the quilting, this exact shirt was being manufactured during the Second World War. Shirts during this time generally fit much baggier than the shirts of today. Dickies designed this overshirt to create a more tailored look while still leaving room to comfortably wear a shirt underneath.
Dickies Construct is now in stock at Service, in the shop and online.

]]>Introducing Velva Sheen, a vintage inspired sportswear company focused on recreating classic basics that are perfect for layering or on their own in the late Texas summer.
Originally founded in 1936 and located in Cincinnati Ohio, Velva Sheen produced custom printed shirts which separated them from many knitwear competitors at the time. More recently Velva Sheen has shifted production to California while retaining their original vintage logo and design. A great aspect of these shirts is that they are circular knit, meaning they do not have any side seams for extra comfort. Once you go seamless there’s no looking back.
Velva Sheen creates all their garments with the utmost attention to detail while incorporating a variety of different fabrics and dying processes to keep things interesting. Ranging from indigo garment dye to slubby irregular knits, each piece is unique. And staying true to their roots, all of their pieces are made in the USA.

In addition to added comfort, the cup sole gives the classic shape extra appeal, with the visible tonal stitching. If you're a skater, the technical aspects of this shoe are great and if you're wearing them casually you'll get the bonus of added comfort for just kicking around.

Short sleeve shirts, slim fit shorts, swim trunks, printed bucket hats, and the eponymous Goodstock Chino have landed at Service for summer from Globe Australia.
From the brand themselves, a brief history of Globe:
"Peter and Stephen Hill founded Hardcore in 1984 and rapidly expanded it to become on the world's largest skateboard distribution companies. At the time, the Hills were professional skateboarders who were dissatisfied with the quality of skate and snow products available in Australia, so they went into business to import the best from the US.
Through constant film productions, promotions, tours, contests, video and magazine advertising, Hardcore became the driving force behind the skateboarding explosion during the mid 80's in Australia.
In 1994, along with brother and current Globe CEO Matt Hill the Globe brand is created. After 10 years of design, production, and distribution with Hardcore, it was time to create a global brand, first with shoes for skaters and surfers, and then with apparel and hardgoods for the broader boardsports market.
Fast forward to today and the same crew of skaters, surfers and snowboarders that started the business back in the 80's has grown to a global network of counter culture artisans that are united by board sports, street fashion, media, and design and film."

]]>We wanted to introduce Almond into our mix for the following reasons:
1) The product is all made in the USA.
2) The creators give attention to craftsmanship and to building relationships with the people who produce their products.
3) The collection has an appealing Southern California style and sensibility which is reflected in each product.
From Almond:
"The shops we are privileged to work with don't necessarily carry surfing as a common thread, but share a desire to make quality USA made goods, and educate the customer about the brands and makers behind them. Thankful for like-minded people and friends who make it all possible."
Almond offers high quality staples for the Summer, which we now offer in the shop and online.
]]>It is no secret Service has a fondness for surf and skate inspired brands. We began selling RVCA when the brand launched in 2001. We were attracted to the collection because it was simple, affordable and durable. Today, almost fifteen years later, each collection maintains those same design sensibilities season after season. Now a much larger enterprise, RVCA remains a great value and a celebration of its casual surf/skate roots.
We sold the original Recession Collection at our Campus store because it was super affordable and cool. It was designed with a Dickies vibe and introduced poly cotton durable blends to skaters, couriers, baristas and students. The Recession Collection pant and short were the original inspiration for what is now the Weekend Chino, a mainstay in RVCA’s broader offering. Then the shorts were basically short versions of Dickies pants. Shirts were poly cotton versions of a two pocket work shirt like guys wore at gas stations and auto garages mostly sold by Dickies at the time. RVCA was the perfect compliment to our Vans offering. They are still great together.
Back then RVCA seemed real, raw and relevant, not unlike Altru, Mollusk or Almond, now. We still love the RVCA team’s smart designs.
Today, RVCA maintains an important place in our assortment. Have a look at our new arrivals including shorts, tees, tanks, swim trunks, and shirts.
In addition, we will always offer RVCA short sleeve and long sleeve oxford shirts in core and seasonal colors, as well as the Weekend Chino, all available in the store and online.
This Fall, we will re-introduce Dickies at Service with the Dickies Construct Collection. Work wear inspired pants and jackets with a modern fit. The Recession Collection is also back as a special collection within the RVCA brand. The clothing will feature the original label on staple basics like cotton tees, sweatshirts and chinos.
